Thanks for stopping by! I'm Scott James. I've been a postman for 20 years and have decided it's time to hang up the mail bag and become a professional software developer.
About Me
I'm a software engineer making a career change after nearly 20 years at Royal Mail. During this time, I earned a Computer Science degree, worked on various freelance projects in the digital space, and currently serve as site administrator for legendary electronic music label Planet Mu.
Through self-guided learning, online courses, and a year-long volunteer role with Friends of the Earth, I have built a solid foundation in JavaScript, React, and Next.js. I am self-motivated, hardworking, and committed to writing efficient, accessible, and responsive code.
I am now eager to transition into a full-time engineering role, where I can further expand my skill set and contribute to the development of innovative online projects.

Experience
Friends of the Earth
Digital Team (Volunteer)
Friends of the Earth is a grassroots environmental charity campaigning for action on the climate crisis
This was a year-long volunteer role that I took on alongside my day job to gain experience with web development in a professional setting. I supported the Digital team with the creation of web based products that helped to engage new supporters and communicate campaigns to online audiences. As well as Drupal, React and UX/UI, I gained essential skills in version control, containerization, Agile and stakeholder management.
2019-2020Livity
Content Creator (freelance)
Livity was a non-profit marketing agency that worked with young people to create youth specialist campaigns and content, alongside training and mentoring for those under 21.
I collaborated with a group of young people to create and launch a new YouTube channel centered around gaming and youth culture. This involved pitching ideas that reflected Livity’s brand and values, as well as filming, editing, and delivering high-quality digital content on time and within budget.
2018-2019Loading
Content Creator (freelance)
Loading is a collection of gaming bars in London and Brighton which offers a welcoming space to drink, play and relax.
I was part of a small team responsible for creating sponsored digital content and live streams for brands such as Amazon, Google, and others in the tech/gaming space.
2017-2018Planet Mu Records
Label Consultant/ Web Maintenance
Planet Mu is an electronic music record label established in 1995 by Mike Paradinas
I began by issuing DMCA takedowns on platforms such as YouTube, Google, and illegal hosting sites, as well as troubleshooting general IT issues. Over time, I transitioned into an ad-hoc A&R and consultancy role, and currently, I am responsible for maintaining the website.
